BYD unveiled an electrified family crossover priced at $14,000 with a 2,000 km range (photos)

The affordable BYD Sealion 05 crossover is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that allows it to travel up to 93 km on electric power and consume just 4.9 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

Official photos of the BYD Sealion 05 have already been released. The budget crossover will go on sale in China by the end of fall at a price ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 yuan ($14,100–21,170) and will later become available in other countries. Information about the vehicle appeared on the CarNewsChina website.

The BYD Sealion 05 is a family crossover with a modern and streamlined design. Its exterior features prominent side lines, a wide radiator grille, narrow headlights, and taillights connected by an LED strip.

Dimensions of the BYD Sealion 05:

• width — 1,880 mm;
• height — 1,720 mm;
• wheelbase — 2,712 mm.

The crossover’s interior has not yet been revealed, but it is known that it will feature a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen for the multimedia system, and a tall, two-tier center console.



The BYD Sealion 05 crossover will be equipped with a DM-I plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 101 l. s. and a 163-сильный electric motor. The top speed is 180 km/h.

The 18.3 kWh battery will provide a range of 93 km in electric mode, and fuel consumption will be 4.9 L/100 km. The total range using both gasoline and electric power will reach 2,000 km.
