The Jiyue 01 from the Geely-Baidu joint venture earned five stars in the C-NCAP crash test
The Jiyue 01 electric crossover (see specifications) from the Geely -Baidu joint venture received a five-star rating in C-NCAP safety and crash tests. Its overall performance score is 89.1%. This is in line with the results of previously evaluated models, the Maxus G90 and BAIC X55. The C-NCAP safety and crash test
program was established by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) in 2006. Today, its evaluation standards are close to those of Euro NCAP.
The Jiyue 01 model under evaluation is the Max version, with an estimated price of 219,900 yuan ($30,200). This is the base model with rear-wheel drive and a 71.4 kWh LFP battery from SVOLT. Its autonomous driving system is similar to that of the model’s top-of-the-line version and includes 13 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 millimeter-wave radar units, and 2 Nvidia Drive Orin-X chips with a processing power of 508 TOPS. The rating agency purchased the Jiyue 01 Max anonymously from a random dealer using its own funds on February 28.
The Jiyue 01’s overall score is 89.1%. By comparison, the previously evaluated Avatr 11 electric crossover from Changan and CATL received a score of 90.2%. The Jiyue 01’s result exceeds the average score of models that participated in the 2021 C-NCAP safety tests by 5.9%.
In the passenger protection category, the Jiyue 01 scored 90.37%. Its door pillars remained undamaged, although the airbags deployed and the seat belts retracted automatically. In this category, the Jiyue 01 received a higher score than the BMW i5 sedan, manufactured by BMW-Brilliance. The pedestrian protection score is 79.83%, and the active safety category received a rating of 91.8%.
More about the Jiyue 01: Jiyue is a joint venture between Geely and Baidu that was launched in 2021 under the Jidu brand, with the majority stake held by “China’s Google.” However, Jidu was unable to obtain a sales license and was reorganized into Jiyue. Currently, Geely owns 65% of this joint venture and is responsible for production, while Baidu handles software development.
The Jiyue 01 is the brand’s first model, launched in December 2023. It is built on the SEA modular architecture. The model features a distinctive design with Y-shaped headlights and a single light strip under the hood. The Jiyue 01 measures 4,853/1,990/1,611 mm with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Its curb weight ranges from 2,210 to 2,380 kg.
The base version of the Jiyue 01 is equipped with a 200-kW electric motor (268 l.s.), located on the rear axle, and is powered by a 71.4 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of up to 550 km according to the CLTC cycle. The Jiyue 01 Long Range model features a 100 kWh ternary NMC battery from CATL and offers a range of up to 720 km. The all-wheel-drive version of the Jiyue 01 is equipped with two electric motors with a combined peak power output of 400 kW (536 l.s.), and its range reaches 660 km (CLTC).
The price range for the Jiyue 01 varies from 219,900 to 309,900 yuan ($30,200–$42,600). However, sales of the Jiyue 01 in China are low: only 3,474 units have been sold, of which 2,700 were sold from January through June. Thus, Jiyue appears to be a minor brand. However, a second model will soon be unveiled—the Jiyue 07 electric liftback, which has already arrived at dealerships in China.
