Changan Automotive is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle with a swappable battery—the Oshan S20. This model will be an important step for the company toward developing infrastructure for rapid battery swapping.
What is known about the new Oshan S20 electric vehicle?
According to certification data, the Oshan S20 will be a fully electric version of the Changan Nevo A05 hybrid sedan (PHEV). However, the new model will be launched under the Oshan subbrand, which specializes in developing cutting-edge technologies in the electric vehicle segment. For comparison, the Nevo A05 is a hybrid version of the gasoline-powered Changan Eado (formerly known as the Changan Yida).
Features and Specifications of the Oshan S20
The main advantage of the Oshan S20 is the ability to replace its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is supplied by United Auto Battery Co. Ltd.—a joint venture between CATL and SAIC. However, it is important to note that this electric vehicle’s batteries are not compatible with Nio’s battery swap stations, which use NMC batteries also manufactured by CATL.

The Oshan S20 is in the final stages of certification. This means the electric vehicle will soon be available in the Chinese market and possibly in other countries as well. Production will take place at Changan’s plant in Chongqing.
