BYD enters the global market with its new flagship Tang L: a range of over 1,000 km (photos, specs)

Chinese auto giant BYD continues its expansion into the global market.
The brand has begun exporting its new flagship crossover, the BYD Tang L, which is known outside of China as the BYD Atto 8.
The model combines premium comfort, outstanding power, and a record-breaking range of over 1,000 km.

The BYD Tang L made its international debut under the name Atto 8

The first countries to receive shipments of the crossover are Mexico and Uzbekistan.
In these markets, the model is marketed as the BYD Atto 8 and is already positioned as the main competitor to the Toyota Highlander, Kia Sorento, and BMW X5 Plug-In.

In Mexico, the starting price for the BYD Atto 8 is 1.2 million pesos (about $64,750).

A flagship crossover with a premium design

The BYD Tang L / Atto 8 is a spacious seven-seat crossover measuring 5,040 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height.
The wheelbase is 2,950 mm, ensuring excellent comfort on long trips.

The interior features a modern layout with two displays, including a rotating multimedia screen, as well as premium trim materials.
Trunk capacity ranges from 270 to 1,960 liters, making the vehicle one of the most practical in its class.

Top-of-the-line trim: premium comfort and technology

Export versions of the BYD Atto 8 are available exclusively in the top trim level:

• 21-inch alloy wheels

• leather interior and panoramic sunroof

• a 21-speaker audio system

• ventilation and massage functions for first- and second-row seats

• adaptive cruise control and surround-view cameras

• head-up display, climate control, and a full suite of safety systems

These features make the Atto 8 a fully-fledged alternative to European premium SUVs, but at a much more affordable price.

Engines and Range of the BYD Tang L / Atto 8

For export, the model is currently available in the DM-P hybrid version, which combines:

• a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine

• two electric motors

• a total output of 480 l.s.

• a 35.6 kWh battery

This system allows the car to travel 152 km on electric power alone, with a total range of up to 1,030 km on a single tank of fuel and a full battery charge.

All-electric versions with power outputs of 777 and 1,086 l.s. will be released later.
The electric vehicle with a 100.5 kWh battery offers a range of 550–670 km and supports megawatt charging (1 MW)—up to 50% in 5 minutes.

BYD Takes on Global Brands

The BYD Tang L / Atto 8 will become one of the brand’s key models in the large SUV segment.
The Chinese brand is confidently competing with European and Japanese manufacturers, offering cutting-edge technology, maximum comfort, and record-breaking energy efficiency at a reasonable price.

Starting in 2025, BYD plans to expand exports to Europe, South America, and the Middle East, and the Atto 8 will become the flagship of the brand’s international lineup.
