In 2025, the structure of motorists’ preferences regarding engine types changed significantly in Ukraine. Although gasoline-powered cars remain the most popular, hybrids and electric vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity. This is evidenced by data from the Automotive Market Research Institute.

What types of engines do people choose when buying new cars?

An analysis of sales for the first months of 2025 showed:

Hybrids are the main trend of the year. Their share of the new car market rose from 14.9% to 27.3%, which is nearly double that of 2024.
Gasoline-powered cars remain in the lead with a 37.6% share, although demand for them has fallen by 6%.
Diesel cars continue to lose ground—they account for 20.4% of the market.
Electric vehicles maintain a stable share—14.6% of all new registrations.
LPG-powered cars have virtually disappeared from the new car market—accounting for just 0.17%.

What is happening in the used-car market?

The picture is somewhat different here:

Gasoline-powered cars are the clear leaders with a 44% share (+0.9% compared to 2024).
Although diesel cars are losing popularity, they still account for 28.4% of the market (–2%).
Used electric cars are gradually gaining momentum: their share has grown to 7.1% (+2.5%).
Used hybrids account for 2.5%—significantly less than new models.
Interestingly, cars with LPG systems remain a significant segment—17.9%—although interest is declining here as well.
