Jeep Cherokee recalled over a transmission issue

Jeep is recalling 81,165 of its 2014 Cherokee SUVs over software problems that could cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into neutral, reducing power. This could also lead to a crash. That said, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Jeep's parent company, says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this problem.

Subject of the recall: 81,165 Jeep Cherokee SUVs from the 2014 model year, built between February 27, 2013 and July 11, 2014. To be more specific, the issue affects only Cherokees with the 3.2-liter V6 engine. 

Reason for the Jeep Cherokee recall: a software problem. As a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift into neutral, leading to a loss of power and an increased risk of a crash (according to the NHTSA).

Solution:  Dealers will update the transmission software free of charge for the owners of the affected American cars.

How to contact the manufacturer of the Jeep Cherokee :  Owners can contact FCA customer support by phone. The recall is expected to begin on August 2, 2019. 

The company is asking all Jeep Cherokee owners to check whether their car has open recalls. The NHTSA website will indicate whether your car has open recalls that need to be addressed.

To check a Jeep Cherokee, you simply need to enter the 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website. And if no recall appears, it means your car currently has no open recalls.
