Hand-built Acura TLX PMC for $50,000
This year, Acura announced that it is going to make a special version of its TLX sedan called the PMC, named after its Performance Manufacturing Center. This is the so-called plant where it builds the NSX. Subsequently, it is here that all 360 examples will be assembled.
Of course, as with any personalization, you'll have to pay extra. As a result, the company announced a figure of $50,945, including delivery.
So what do you get for handing over almost $51,000 for an Acura PMC-land? Well, you get:
- the special Valencia Red Pearl paint reserved for the NSX
- a bit of unique trim
- different seats
- the all-wheel-drive A-Spec TLX model
But in terms of performance, it's the same standard car.
What's harder to quantify is the car's handcrafted character and the degree of thoroughness with which Acura's master builders assembled this car. These aren't mass-produced vehicles, so everything is installed and adjusted over a long period. The car also goes through a standard inspection process, which includes a dyno test.
As a rule, to devote such attention to the details of your car during assembly, you have to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars at a boutique manufacturer. After which, there may also be problems associated with acquiring an exotic boutique car. In the end, a handmade Acura is still an Acura, and the ownership experience should reflect that.
