Chevrolet Corvette buyers will be able to build their car's engine themselves at the GM plant

Future Chevrolet Corvette owners will have a unique opportunity to help build their own car. General Motors is launching an exclusive “Build Your Own Engine” program that will allow customers to personally work on assembling the engine for their sports car.
This was reported by the industry publication Autoevolution.
A factory tour and the chance to help assemble a Corvette engine
The new option will be available as early as this year and is aimed at buyers of top-of-the-line Chevrolet Corvette models. Program participants will be invited to the legendary plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky—the only facility where the Corvette is manufactured.
As part of the visit, customers will:
-
take a tour of the General Motors plant;
-
take an active part in assembling their car’s engine;
-
work under the supervision of professional GM mechanics.
Once assembly is complete, the engine will be sent to a test bench, where it will be tested against factory quality standards and then installed in the specific Chevrolet Corvette intended for the customer.
Which models are eligible for the Build Your Own Engine program?
Initially, the Build Your Own Engine program will be available to buyers of the flagship Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X with 1,250 l.s. power. In the future, General Motors plans to expand the program to include other high-performance models:
-
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1;
-
Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Participation Fee and Bonus
The cost of participating in the program is $5,000. For an additional fee of $1,495, General Motors offers a special vehicle handover experience—a ceremonial event at the Chevrolet Corvette Museum, located next to the plant in Bowling Green.
This isn’t GM’s first such initiative
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time General Motors has launched such an initiative. A similar program, “Build Your Own Engine,” was previously offered to Chevrolet Corvette buyers in 2011 and 2015 and was in high demand among fans of the brand.
