A battery breakthrough: 24M Technologies' new technology will boost EV range by 50%

The American company 24M Technologies has unveiled an innovative battery manufacturing technology that has the potential to radically transform the electric vehicle market. The new ETOP (Electrode-to-Pack) solution increases range by 50% without increasing the battery’s size, making it a true breakthrough for the automotive industry.

What Has Changed in Battery Design

Traditional batteries consist of individual cells assembled into modules, which are then combined into a single pack. This configuration requires a large amount of additional materials—aluminum, steel, and plastic. These materials increase weight, reduce efficiency, and decrease the proportion of active material in the battery.

ETOP technology completely changes this approach:

• each electrode is sealed in a thin polymer film;

• the cells are integrated directly into the battery pack housing;

• the proportion of active material increases from 30–60% to 80%.

This allows for one and a half times more active components to be packed into the same volume, which directly increases the electric vehicle’s capacity and range.

Advantages of the new technology

• Range is 50% greater with the same battery dimensions;

• Simplified production—the entire process, from sealing the electrodes to assembling the pack, is carried out on a single automated line;

• Versatility—ETOP can be used in any type of battery: lithium-ion, LFP, NCA, and even sodium-ion;

• Lower production costs thanks to the minimization of auxiliary materials.

When will the new batteries be available?

For now, 24M Technologies’ technology is still in the testing phase. Company representatives have announced that in the coming months, one of the world’s major automakers will receive battery prototypes for real-world testing. In addition, representatives from the aviation and energy sectors have expressed interest in the ETOP system.

Experts are confident that such innovations will accelerate the widespread transition to electric vehicles with a long range, making them more affordable and practical for everyday use.
