The 2020 VW Cross Sport is 10.4 cm longer than the Chevrolet Blazer. The Cross Sport has the same 297.9-cm wheelbase as the VW Atlas, which is 11.7 cm longer than the Blazer's. Standing 172 cm tall, the Cross Sport is 1.8 cm taller than the Blazer.

Exterior styling

Looks will always be subjective. The Chevrolet Blazer looks sportier as of today. Although both have sloping rooflines, the Blazer benefits from a sleek front-end design. It resembles the Camaro with its narrow headlights and wide-open grille. And the muscular lines of the VW Atlas carry over to the Cross Sport, giving it a more rugged look.

Interior design and quality

The Blazer's interior has large round Chevrolet Camaro-style HVAC vents with red accents and contrast stitching. The cabin uses physical dials and a central information display. The VW Atlas Cross Sport's cabin design is conservative, but beautiful in its own way. The dashboard, door panels and seats have straighter lines, giving them a clean, mature look. The higher trim levels get the VW Digital Cockpit with a 10.25-inch screen.

Technical specifications

The 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport offers 2 engine options. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. As well as a 3.5-liter V6 developing 276 hp and 266 lb-ft.  Both come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. And 4Motion all-wheel drive is offered as an option. The Blazer can be had with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I-4 producing 193 hp and 188 lb-ft. Or a 3.6-liter V6 producing 308 hp and 270 lb-ft. In 2020 Chevrolet added a turbocharged 2.0-liter option between the base engine and the V6, which makes 230 hp and 258 lb-ft. All three engines come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is front-wheel drive only.

Interior space

The VW Atlas Cross Sport is more spacious than the Chevrolet Blazer. The Atlas offers 102.6 cm of rear legroom, compared with the Blazer's 100.6 cm. The Cross Sport also offers 1.1 cubic meters of cargo space behind the rear seats and 2.2 cubic meters with the seats folded, versus 0.9 cubic meters behind the Chevrolet Blazer's rear seats and 1.8 cubic meters with the seats folded.

There isn't yet detailed pricing information for the 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport, but the model is expected to start just below the base price of the three-row Atlas at $32,565. The 2020 Chevrolet Blazer costs from $29,995 for the 2.5-liter model with or without front-wheel drive. The mid-level turbocharged 2.0-liter Blazer costs from $33,995, and the V6 AWD Premier trim costs from $46,795.
