The 2020 Range Rover Velar
If you want to experience the 5.0-liter V8 from Jaguar Land Rover, recently taken off the production line, then we recommend not delaying placing your order. The new 2020 Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic edition will probably be the last new model. In its dimensions the Velar sits between the compact Porsche Macan and the midsize Cayenne SUVs. The idea is to create an understudy for the full-size Range Rover SVAutobiography at a significantly more affordable price - $91,815 versus the big SV's asking price of $179,795.
The good news is that the developers didn't greatly alter the smaller version. As a result, the Velar SV gets:
- a new front bumper with enlarged intakes and a neatly integrated lower spoiler
- a rear end with 4 large exhaust outlets
- paddle shifters behind the steering wheel made of metal rather than plastic
- metal knurled rollers for the rotary controllers
- door panels with carbon-fiber inserts with woven metal wire to add extra color and shine
The only real drawback is having to get used to the non-intuitive dual-screen InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system.
As for the technical specifications, it's hard not to appreciate the V8 with its 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. But while the engine suits the Velar perfectly, its chassis feels less harmonious. That said, we note that the Velar impresses in the mud, thanks to its standard air springs, capable of raising the ride height by up to 1.7 inches in rock-crawl mode. Like the F-Pace, the Velar gets torque vectoring. For example, you can feel this working with the SV in its dynamic setting, creating a sense of the rear stepping out when applying power to counter understeer. The brakes also deserve praise, with large 15.6-inch rotors and four-piston calipers that are tireless even under thermal loads during long descents and corners. In short, by choosing this model, you get a high-performance SUV in which you can cross even a desert.
