BYD's Yangwang U9 completes six months of testing at the Nürburgring and prepares for delivery
BYD’s Yangwang brand has reached a significant milestone with its U9 supercar (see specifications), which recently completed an intensive six-month testing program at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Nürburgring, known as “the world’s most challenging test track,” is infamous for its demanding circuit with steep elevation changes and numerous sharp turns.
During this period, the U9 underwent thorough fine-tuning: the Yangwang team optimized its performance on more than 70 turns and enhanced its capabilities on more than 30 critical sections of the track. Nearly 150 technical aspects were thoroughly tested to ensure that the U9 could confidently navigate this legendary track.
Last week, Yangwang celebrated another milestone—the first batch of U9 supercars rolled off the assembly line. The facility was built to meet exceptional manufacturing standards, required for this high-performance vehicle, and includes state-of-the-art facilities for body assembly and final assembly, as well as a unique cleanroom dedicated to the production of the U9’s carbon-fiber monocoque. This cleanroom meets medical-grade standards for humidity and temperature control, ensuring precision in the fabrication of the U9’s complex carbon-fiber monocoque.
The production of the U9 is a testament to Yangwang’s commitment to cutting-edge automotive technology. The vehicle’s carbon-fiber monocoque, one of the largest in the world, is manufactured using advanced bonding technology that Yangwang has refined over the course of a decade.
The Yunan-X system enhances the U9’s performance. Together with the e⁴ platform, it delivers stability and responsiveness in all directions. Utilizing an 800-volt high-voltage platform and a powerful 36-kilowatt suspension motor, the Yunan-X system delivers over 1 metric ton of lift per wheel and precise responsiveness. This technology represents cutting-edge developments from BYD and Yangwang.
Quality control for the U9 is conducted in accordance with aerospace engineering protocols, with thorough inspections at every stage of production. As production ramps up, Yangwang is ready to deliver these exquisite supercars to its first customers as early as this month. With the U9, Yangwang isn’t just entering the supercar market—it’s setting a new standard for what a supercar can achieve.
The Yangwang U9, priced at 1.68 million yuan, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds. Measuring 4,966 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width, 1,295 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, it weighs 2,475 kg. It features a carbon-fiber roof and rear diffuser, as well as an optional racing spoiler...e.
The U9 is equipped with BYD’s U-shaped e4 motor system, which includes four motors delivering a peak torque of 1,680 Nm and a top speed of 309.19 km/h. It accelerates from 0 to 400 meters in 9.78 seconds, and the 80 kWh battery provides a CLTC range of 450 km. Charging options include dual fast charging, which charges the battery from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes, and slow charging, which takes 7 hours. The U9 is also equipped with the DiSus-X suspension and stabilization system, which allows it to ride on three wheels, jump, and perform dynamic maneuvers.
