Nissan Sentra 2026: a new affordable sedan, a rival to the Toyota Corolla and VW Jetta

The 2026 Nissan Sentra has been officially unveiled in the U.S. and is set to hit the market by the end of 2025. The updated sedan features a modern design, premium technology, and an expanded list of features, while remaining an affordable alternative to models such as the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Volkswagen Jetta.

Nissan Leaf-inspired design

Externally, the new Sentra bears a strong resemblance to the electric Nissan Leaf. Slim LED headlights, a sleek silhouette with a coupe-like roof, and curved body lines give the sedan a more futuristic look.
The SR version has a sporty character—glossy black trim, aerodynamic body kit, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels emphasize the model’s dynamic appeal.

The sedan has grown slightly compared to the previous generation, providing more space for passengers.

Interior and Features

The Sentra’s interior incorporates elements from the Nissan Leaf: a two-spoke steering wheel and two 12.3-inch displays (digital instrument cluster and multimedia). The buttons on the dashboard are now touch-sensitive, and the layout has become more minimalist.

Even the base model of the 2026 Nissan Sentra comes equipped with:

• adaptive cruise control;

• automatic emergency braking;

• lane-keeping assist;

• traffic sign recognition.

Optional features include surround-view cameras, a premium Bose audio system, and the ProPILOT Assist semi-autonomous driving system.

Technical Specifications

In North America, the new Sentra will be available with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 149 l.s., paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Average fuel economy is 7.1 l/100 km.

In other markets, the model—also known as the Nissan Sunny—will be equipped with a 1.6-liter engine (135 l.s.) and a 136 l.s.
