How much time will be spent waiting for a bespoke Ferrari model?
The financial cost of purchasing an exclusive Ferrari is sometimes comparable to the price of a high-end, custom-made watch. But before the vehicle completes all the necessary preparations before leaving the dealership, a certain amount of time will be spent on the process.
This raises a perfectly reasonable question: aside from the high price, what else stands in the way of making this coveted purchase? Which stage takes the most time? And are there really that many people willing to wait more than a year to receive a truly high-quality and unique car model—and then take justifiable pride in it?
Through an interview with Ferrari’s commercial director, we were able to answer the above questions. As experience shows, when it comes to unique car models, customers wait quite a long time for them. This waiting period can be around 4–5 years. Based on the director’s comments, we can conclude that the production of such models is a growing trend.
According to Autocar, the production of some models takes several years. And there are also cars that take about three years to manufacture. Despite the fact that demand for Ferrari vehicles is only increasing every year, the company plans to release no more than 2–3 unique cars annually. This is done to fully preserve the exclusivity of its products. It will also allow the company to maintain the production capacity that potential customers were initially informed about.
A good example is the P80/C supercar, which was developed based on the well-known 488 GT3 race car. The entire development process for this car took significantly longer than for any other one-of-a-kind Ferrari model. The entire production process takes at least 18–24 months, and in some cases, 2–3 years. According to Autocar, it is not known for certain whether the time it takes for the car to go on sale is included in this timeframe.
A Unique Ferrari Model
Among these one-of-a-kind models, the P80/C stands out. What makes this vehicle unique is that it was developed exclusively for a single owner, with development beginning in 2015. Its top speed reaches 325 km/h, and it can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. The car’s engine produces 670 l. s. of power, and the engine displacement is 3.9 liters.
Prior to this model, the exclusive SP3JC supercar held the top spot; its distinctive feature was the absence of a roof. The manufacturer used the engine and chassis from the F12TDF model. The car features stylish wheels and very striking taillights, which were borrowed from the 812 Superfast. Its design is characterized by a rather massive rear bumper and a memorable front spoiler. The manufacturer used high-quality, luxurious materials for the interior, which features an ergonomic and elegant dashboard.
The car’s elegant exterior is accentuated by the Bianco Italia color scheme. The car’s design conveys a sense of speed thanks to its rigid folding roof, full-size doors, and side windows. The owner of this exclusive vehicle is John Collins—founder of Talacrest, businessman, and part-time collector. The SP3JC made its debut as recently as 2018.
Each of the models presented was distinguished by the fact that a unique design and assembly process were used in its manufacture. This guarantees the customer that they will not only become the owner of an exclusive vehicle but will also have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a designer who will customize the car specifically for them. In essence, this is what makes the partnership with Ferrari so unique. Customers have the chance to acquire a truly one-of-a-kind car. However, the company considers such requests only from the 250 individuals who belong to its top-tier clientele.
