According to statistics, the Ford Fusion is one of Ford’s most sought-after models imported from the U.S. to Ukraine. Just one year after the model became available in the U.S., more than 300,000 units were sold. This is an unquestionable success, but the car’s popularity is also evidenced by its demand in Europe. The reason is simple: excellent build quality is combined with a comfortable driving experience, a beautiful interior, and visual appeal. This stylish car easily ranks alongside business-class models, yet its price remains affordable for most buyers.

In Europe, a counterpart to the popular “Fusion” is sold under the name Ford Mondeo, which went into production in 2012. Visually, it closely resembles an Aston Martin but features more distinctly defined body elements.

These vehicles are produced under the One Ford program, which means that each model is completely identical across all countries. The design and trim levels are virtually identical, and the main difference between the American and European versions lies in the name.

The popularity of the Ford Fusion is quite simple to explain: the manufacturer has succeeded in maximizing comfort for both the driver and passengers. This is reflected in excellent sound insulation and a comfortable driving experience. It features a spacious interior and a roomy trunk. Ford Fusion Technical Specifications

The Fusion in its base S trim is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter gasoline engine producing 175 l. s. However, the range of available models is significantly broader when considering the different engine options. For example, there are options with better fuel economy and more power. You can choose models with the following engines (all EcoBoost):

1.5-liter with 181 l.s.
1.6 L with 179 l.s. (hybrid fuel economy: approximately 6.8 L/100 km)
2 L, 240 l.s. (accelerates to 100 km/h in 7 s).
2.7 L with 330 l.s. and all-wheel drive. This is the “Fusion” version, equipped with a turbocharged engine delivering peak performance. It can reach 100 km/h in 6 seconds, which puts the car on par with sports models. It’s important to note that this is not a characteristic typically found in family cars.

All EcoBoost engines feature the Auto Start-Stop system, designed to promote fuel efficiency. Thus, the engine shuts off automatically when the car comes to a stop. An excellent way to achieve consistent fuel economy is to purchase a hybrid model with a 2-liter engine producing 141 l.s. This model offers reduced fuel consumption—just 5.5 liters per 100 km. However, it’s worth noting that buying a hybrid is more expensive than purchasing a conventional gasoline-powered car.

The models described can boost power when needed thanks to turbochargers, yet fuel economy remains high. This capability is made possible by the implementation of innovative technologies.

Trim Levels

The cost of any car depends directly on the trim level chosen by the buyer. The “Ford Fusion” is available in the following variants:

S – base model. 2.5-liter engine, automatic transmission. Special options include keyless entry and Bluetooth.
SE – upgraded trim level. The car comes with a 6-speaker audio system and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Titanium – the top trim level. The car features a leather interior and heated seats. It also includes power-adjustable front seats, a Sony stereo system, and the My Ford touchscreen display.

No matter which trim level a car enthusiast chooses, they’ll appreciate the consistent quality and reliability.

Handling and Safety

When manufacturing cars for the U.S. market, the focus is on safety. The Fusion has received an IIHS rating and has shown excellent results in crash tests. The vehicle offers a high level of comfort on Ukrainian roads, characterized by a smooth ride and excellent maneuverability. Good suspension damping minimizes discomfort caused by bumps and jolts, as it smooths out the ride over uneven surfaces and potholes. This feature is not typical of the Ford Mondeo.

Exterior

There are no major differences in the car’s design. The Fusion’s front grille resembles that of an Aston Martin, and the headlights are visually very similar to those of the Ford Mustang. These details give the car a pleasantly aggressive look, enhancing its appeal.

Even in its most basic trim level, the Ford Fusion’s interior is better than that of the Mondeo. The car features a dashboard with a built-in monitor for convenient control, as well as seats with adjustable positions.

Advantages of the Ford Fusion over the Ford Mondeo
