What the new Copart auction rules will lead to

Starting in April of this year, Copart introduced new rules regarding vehicle pickup. All carriers must now take a place in the electronic queue managed by the auction using the “Copart Transportation app.”

All carriers must install the app. It allows the auction to track and control the number of vehicles shipped per day. If a carrier arrives at the auction site without a prior reservation, they may simply not be given a vehicle.

The Copart auction network consists of separate, autonomous sites that have the authority to independently regulate the process and establish their own specific rules. The new electronic queue system has so far primarily affected the busiest locations. Currently, the app is used by about half of the locations, but it is expected that all sites will begin using it in the near future.

We have already noted the locations that have introduced the electronic queue in our ground transportation rates.

This change creates some inconveniences for both our customers and the company. We have to pay for vehicles to sit idle at the yard, where available slots for vehicle pickup are allocated with a buffer of one or two days. Moreover, carriers now have the opportunity to speculate on transportation prices if they have available slots in the queue.

All these circumstances mean that when purchasing from the Copart auction, customers may have to incur additional costs.

For our part, we’re doing our very best and making every effort to ensure that vehicles continue to be shipped so that you don’t have to overpay.
