Lamborghini to cap its own production
Lamborghini is a brand that commands high prices, and that's not only because of its incredible performance, technology and luxury. Because, above all, you're buying exclusivity. However, recently on Wall Street, shareholders began demanding more sales from the supercar makers, so that they would bring in more profit. But they failed to consider that increasing production volumes jeopardizes exclusivity and dilutes the brand.
As a result, Lamborghini's shareholders want the company to produce more cars, while its executives seek to impose limits on production.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali told journalists at the opening of the company's new paint shop in Italy: «We must not keep growing forever. Now we must consolidate these results and preserve exclusivity». Management announced that it plans to sell more than 8,000 cars this year. Which is the optimal measure with the current product portfolio. However, this number could increase to 10,000 cars, depending on whether the company adds another model to its small lineup. Perhaps this very option will become a compromise for both the shareholders and the company.
In addition, Lamborghini showed significant growth in the first quarter of this year. Such figures can probably be attributed to the launch of its Urus SUV. So far, analysts forecast revenue increasing to about 1.7 billion euros ($1.92 billion), compared with 1.42 billion euros ($1.6 billion) in 2018.
At the same event, representatives confirmed that no electric supercars are on the horizon for now, since «at present, customers are not interested in them».
Nevertheless, Lamborghini will still add hybrid cars to its lineup by 2025. This decision is driven not by finances, but by the existing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions and meet future mandates. As a result, it's the Urus that is expected to become one of the cars to receive a hybrid powertrain.
