The sporty Ford Bronco Raptor for conquering any obstacle
In mid-2020, a sensation occurred: Ford revived the legendary Bronco model. Two years later, the lineup was expanded to include a 5-seat vehicle with high-performance features. The Ford Bronco Raptor is a sporty version of the off-road SUV with a comfortable design. The manufacturer drew inspiration from Ultra4 Racing, so this “beast” is built to tackle rough terrain at high speeds.
What Makes the New Model Stand Out
Ford Performance, a division specializing in sports cars, was brought in to develop this model. The modification program was extensive: the vehicle features robust frame mounts, an improved suspension design, and a reinforced axle. Thanks to reinforced struts in the center and at the rear, body rigidity is 50% higher compared to the base model.
The car is equipped with two 3-liter EcoBoost V6 turbocharged gasoline engines. They deliver over 410 l. s. with 596 N·m of torque. These performance figures were achieved thanks to a dual-exhaust system, an improved cooling and fuel delivery system, and the transmission. All critical underbody components are protected by a steel shield. Top speed is limited to 202 km/h.
The model is built on a Bronco Wildtrack frame chassis with high-performance Fox shocks and independent front suspension. The latter reduces the risk of skidding and minimizes body roll when hitting obstacles. The High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension electronic control system monitors suspension height and road conditions to adjust the shock absorbers in a matter of seconds for driving over challenging terrain.
Enhanced Transmission
The all-wheel-drive vehicle is equipped with a 10-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission with lockable inter-axle differentials. The transfer case features reinforced gear sets (gear ratio: 4.7:1). It features a low-range gear (3.6:1) and a system to prevent turbo lag. The SUV is equipped with upgraded Dana front and rear axles. These features allow the Raptor to easily navigate uneven mountainous terrain and rough terrain without losing direction.
The equipment includes the G.O.A.T. system with seven driving modes to adapt the electronics to different road surfaces. Selecting Baja Mode reduces turbo lag when the accelerator pedal is pressed. This enhances the model’s performance when traveling at high speeds. Additionally, there is a Tow/Haul option for towing. Thanks to its upgraded transmission, the vehicle can tow a load weighing over 2 metric tons.
Exterior and Interior of the Sport Utility Vehicle
This variant is nearly 22 cm wider than the base version due to the replacement of some body panels. Rear suspension travel is 35.5 cm, and front suspension travel is 33 cm. The manufacturer offers the SUV in a four-door configuration. The most powerful version of the Ford Bronco bears some resemblance to the first generation, but the Sasquatch tuning package adds a touch of aggressiveness. The vehicle stands out with these details:
- massive fender flares;
- 17-inch wheels with lug nuts;
- 37-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires;
- increased approach and departure angles;
- ground clearance of 33.3 cm;
- a modular front bumper with tow hooks.
The front fenders and hood are equipped with air ducts that vent hot air out of the engine compartment. As with the other trim levels, the side doors and roof can be quickly removed.
The classic leather interior trim is “livened up” by several bright orange vinyl accents. Inside, there are original, comfortable seats and a center console with a 12-inch screen. The steering wheel has a thickened rim, behind which the paddle shifters are hidden. The model went on sale in the summer of 2022. The stated starting price is $70,000.
