Vinnytsia has launched a low-floor Swiss tram for passengers with reduced mobility: what's changed

On November 30 in Vinnytsia, a modified Swiss Tram2000, equipped with a new low-floor section, made its first run on Route No. 5. The modernization was carried out by specialists from the municipal enterprise “Vinnitsa Transport Company” in collaboration with engineers from Switzerland. Mayor Serhiy Morgunov announced this on his Telegram channel.
What was done: The tram is now accessible to all categories of passengers
According to Serhiy Morgunov, the main goal of the project is to ensure barrier-free access to public transportation.
The new design is specifically adapted for:
-
people in wheelchairs;
-
passengers using crutches or with limited mobility;
-
parents with strollers;
-
veterans with prosthetics;
-
senior citizens.
The low floor allows for easy access to the car, and the improved layout makes the trip comfortable and safe.

A pilot project set to be scaled up
The tram that has been launched is a prototype. In the near future, experts will evaluate:
-
the structural reliability;
-
ease of boarding;
-
compliance with transportation standards;
-
the need for additional improvements.
If the solution proves effective, low-floor sections will also be installed on other Swiss Tram2000 cars operating in Vinnytsia.
Vinnytsia Continues to Develop Accessible Public Transportation
Serhiy Morgunov emphasized that the city has been implementing its accessibility policy since 2006.
Today:
-
70% of all public transportation in Vinnytsia is accessible to passengers with limited mobility;
-
all buses are fully accessible;
-
most trolleybuses also have low floors and ramps.
City authorities plan to continue improving the accessibility of transportation infrastructure by modernizing the fleet and creating a comfortable environment for all residents.
