The new BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric supercar made its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The model immediately set a world record: the car reached a speed of 496 km/h, becoming the fastest production electric vehicle and the fastest car in the world among street-legal models.

In addition, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme earned the title of the world’s most powerful car thanks to its powertrain with a total output of 3,000 l.s..

A limited edition priced at $250,000

BYD will produce only 30 units of the Yangwang U9 Xtreme. Each car will be sold for $250,000, making the model one of the rarest and most expensive Chinese-made electric cars.

The car was created to showcase BYD’s engineering capabilities and its new ultra-premium Yangwang lineup.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is equipped with four electric motors that deliver a total output of 3,000 l.s. and provide an all-wheel-drive configuration with independent traction control for each wheel.

  • Drivetrain: all-wheel drive, with torque vectoring

  • 0–100 km/h acceleration: 2.36 seconds

  • ¼-mile: 9.78 seconds

  • Top speed: 496 km/h, verified at the ATP test track in Pappenburg, Germany

This result officially makes the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme the world’s fastest production car.

Battery and Range

The supercar is equipped with an 80 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 450 kilometers.
Considering its aerodynamic drag and power output, this is one of the best figures among EV hypercars.

Technologies: Active Suspension, Ceramic Brakes, and “Dance” System

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme features a number of unique systems:

  • active suspension with independent control of each wheel

  • a vertical stabilization function and a “dance” feature

  • carbon-ceramic brakes with titanium calipers

  • Torque Vectoring system

  • a carbon-fiber aerodynamic package

The suspension is capable of controlling roll and acceleration, as well as performing demonstration body movements, thereby improving stability at high speeds.

Aerodynamics and tires designed for 500 km/h

The model features a sporty aerodynamic body kit, a large adjustable rear wing, and carbon-fiber body components.

Giti has developed the GitiSport e-GTR2 PRO tires in size 325/35 ZR20 specifically for the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, rated for speeds up to 500 km/h.

These are the world’s first production tires officially certified for such speeds.
