Toyota has unveiled the updated bZ4X — the electric 'twin' of the RAV4 will soon reach Ukraine

Toyota has unveiled an updated version of the bZ4X electric crossover, which is similar in size to the RAV4 and is positioned as its affordable electric counterpart. The 2026 model has undergone a minor facelift to keep pace with the rapidly evolving electric vehicle segment, where competition intensifies literally every quarter.
 

Design: Focus on the Touring trim

The exterior now reflects the style of the Touring variant (known as the bZ Woodland in some countries)—a more practical, extended version. The front end has been redesigned: the LED light clusters have been updated, the bumper has been restyled, and new decorative elements have been added. The wheel rims also feature a different design.

There are no radical changes, but the look has become more modern. This approach is typical for Toyota: the company prefers understated design, which stays relevant longer and doesn’t go out of style as quickly as bold, experimental solutions.
 

Interior: Larger Screens

The most noticeable feature in the cabin is the larger multimedia and instrument panel screens. This is a logical step, considering that many competitors have long offered large displays. In addition to the displays, the interfaces and ergonomics have likely been updated—albeit without any major overhauls.
 

Performance: 340 l.s. and over 550 km of range

The electric crossover is equipped with a 340 l.s. powertrain—a figure well-suited for a family car focused on comfort. The 73 kWh battery allows for a range of over 550 km according to the WLTP cycle. In real-world conditions, owners can expect a range of approximately 400–450 km.

For comparison: depending on the trim level, the gasoline-powered RAV4 can travel 600–700 km on a single tank. Thus, the bZ4X is already approaching familiar driving ranges, although charging time still lags significantly behind refueling speed.
 

Market Situation: Interest Exists, but Without a Rush

Despite the brand’s popularity, the bZ4X has not become a bestseller. It’s chosen by those who need an electric powertrain but trust Toyota’s philosophy. However, it’s hard to call this model a mass-market product. The reasons are obvious: a higher price compared to competitors, a conservative approach to digital technology, and the company’s focus on hybrid and hydrogen solutions.

Toyota makes no secret of the fact that it is prioritizing hybrids and hydrogen, viewing fully electric models as a supplement rather than a key focus.
 

When to Expect Its Arrival in Ukraine

So far, the bZ4X isn’t officially available at Ukrainian dealerships, but that seems set to change soon. Once it hits the market, the model will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Volkswagen ID.4, and other mainstream electric SUVs.

The updated Toyota bZ4X is a step forward that makes the model more appealing. But the question remains: Is the company ready to seriously compete for customers in the electric vehicle segment? The design has been refreshed, the range is respectable, and performance has been improved—but only the market will tell if that’s enough.
