BYD produces its 1,000,000th BYD Song Plus
On July 29, BYD officially announced the production of the 1,000,000th BYD Song Plus New Energy model. The BYD Song Plus New Energy lineup consists of all-electric and hybrid (DM-i) versions of the BYD Song Plus.
Sales of the Song Plus electric vehicle series have exceeded 1 million in just three years since its launch, making it the first electric SUV in China to reach this milestone.
The BYD Song Plus was originally introduced in 2020 as a compact SUV. Initially, the vehicle was available only with an internal combustion engine. The hybrid version (Song Plus DM-i) and the all-electric version (Song Plus EV) went on sale in China in early 2021. The gasoline-powered Song Plus was soon discontinued in 2022 after BYD committed to focusing exclusively on new electric vehicles.
BYD refreshed the Song Plus lineup with the Champion Edition, which went on sale last year. The 2023 facelift replaced the Song (宋) emblem with the standard BYD logo and features a closed-off grille, in line with the BYD Ocean series.
On July 25, BYD unveiled its 2025 Song Plus DM-i, featuring BYD’s fifth-generation DM transmission technology. Externally, the new version differs little from last year’s model. However, with the new powertrain, the vehicle can achieve a combined range of 1,500 km while consuming just 3.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. This is comparable to the previous generation of the Song Plus with the DM 4.0 transmission, which had a fuel consumption of 4.5 L/100 km and a combined range of 1,200 km—a 25% increase.
The 2025 update is equipped with the same 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh Blade batteries as the current model. These correspond to an all-electric range of 112 km and 160 km, respectively, based on CLTC measurements. The dimensions remain unchanged: 4,775 × 1,890 × 1,670 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm.
